HMI preserves multiple properties and shares the stories of Madison's National Landmark Historic District by offering tours & special events at their sites.

Public Tours Begin April 6

The Shrewsbury-Windle House will have tours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 1:30.

The Schroeder Saddletree Factory Museum will have tours on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 3.

The Costigan House will have tours on Tuesdays & Saturdays at 11:30.

Dr. Hutchings' Office will have tours on Mondays & Fridays at 11:30.

The Shrewsbury-Windle House will be closed April 16-18 and April 25-27.

Group tours and private tours are also available by appointment.

Join Us for Archicamp 2026

Historic Madison, Inc. has opened registration for Archicamp, an award-winning youth education program. This year’s camp will take place July 7-9 from 9 am to Noon in the Windle Auditorium, 500 West Street in Madison. Each day will feature a focus on a different historic building and include activities and experiences in the Madison National Historic Landmark district.

The cost of the camp is $35.00 and includes snacks and supplies. Enrollment for the camp is limited to 12 campers. Eligibility is limited to students attending First through Fourth Grades in the 2026-2027 school year. Advanced registration is required. Archicamp 2025

We hosted yet another successful Archicamp this year. Archicamp is a program to teach our community's children about preserving and protecting our historic buildings and the ARCHitecture of Madison! Campers met at the Windle Auditorium for 3 days in June, where they learned about historic trades like painting, and wallpapering, and weaving. They used this knowledge to develop their skills to decorate a box of their own to remember their work. They even had the chance to try weaving at the Jefferson County Historical Society! Campers also learned to identify Federal, Greek Revival, and Italianate architecture around Madison. It was a fun week for both campers and teachers, and we look forward to seeing campers again next year when we will focus on another interesting part of Madison’s architecture and historic buildings.
