Weekly Classroom Content

Week of September 28th...

Math: Student will work to complete the study guide on Monday and will come home with a completed study guide to study over the next few days. I have changed the assessment to Wednesday, September 30th.  The rest of the week will be spent working through Module 4. This module is about following Order of Operations, otherwise known as PEMDAS. Additional copies of the homework assignment and due dates can be found in Google Classroom. 

Reading: Students will continue reading informational texts. This week, they will read about Andrew Carnegie, an immigrant from Scotland, who became the richest man in the world in 1901. We will focus on clarifying information as we read, and will categorize and sequence information as well. 

Writing: Using the information that students recorded while researching reasons we should protect rainforests and ways people are helping to protect rainforests, they will write an essay. Part of the essay will be done with guidance, and part will be done written independently. Students will continue to  use  T.I.D.E. to write full paragraphs. 

Science Labs: Students will continue to explore the moon's revolution and how the moon phases are labeled based on the amount of sunlight reflected from Earth's perspective.  Students will read and apply the information gained to describe and draw the different moon phases.  We will also explore how solar eclipses and lunar eclipses occur. Upon finishing moon phases, we will move into the cause/pattern of seasons. (This unit is all about patterns in space. We will cover shadows, day & night, seasons, movement of constellations, moon phases, tides, gravity, etc. The standards are shown below. )
