Weekly Classroom Content

Math: Student are multiplying 1-Digit and 2-Digit numbers by multi digit numbers. They are using estimation to check for reasonableness. The unit assessment will be on Friday, September 11th. 

Reading: Students are reading informational texts and are using reading strategies such as questioning and sequencing to gain a deeper understanding. 

Writing: Students will continue to write GIST statements and will begin to "break down" writing prompts in preparation for writing essay responses. Students are also using T.I.D.E. to write full paragraphs. 

Science Labs: Students will chart the amount of sunlight Parker receives throughout the year and be able to explain the relationship between the number of daylight hours and the position of the earth in relationship to the sun. Students should be able to explain how shadows change throught the day based on earth's rotation. Students should also know that the sun appears to rise in the east and set in the west. Based on this, they should be able to recognize what time of day it is based on the direction of their shadow. Finally, they should realize that shadows are shortest when the sun is highest overhead.
