The Presentation
The Project Board
Project Board Dimensions
According to the Social Studies Fair guidelines, the project board must fit within a space 36 inches wide and 30 inches deep. It cannot weigh over 100 pounds or be taller than 100 inches.
You can find standard sized project boards almost anywhere today including: Dollar General, Walmart, and Hobby Lobby.
DO NOT buy the mini project board. Make sure it is full, normal size.
Pro Tip: Buy your project board NOW. All HHMS Social Studies Honors classes will be doing presentations at the same time. If you do not buy your board early enough supplies in Hammond could sell out.
Points to remember about the physical appearance of the project are:
The title of the project must be on display.
Use one color printing to avoid confusion.
The materials used for the project vary, but is should be safe, strong, lightweight, and self-supporting.
Use attractive materials and lettering.
Words should be seen easily from a distance of three to five feet.
Choose colors which have good value contrast. Value contrast is the amount of darkness or lightness in a color. For example, navy blue letters on a yellow background are easier to read than orange letters on a yellow background.
Suggested colors are:
White on black Orange on purple
Black on yellow White on purple
Black on orange Navy blue on yellow
Yellow on green Purple on yellow
Be creative; make your own figures from available materials or handmade items. Use original materials or pictures where possible, and avoid the use or over use of photocopies.

Various project media can be included in the project. These include:
Charts
Documentaries

The Speech
During your class presentation, you will have an opportunity to explain your research topic with your class.
Your speech must be at least 3 minutes but not more than 5 minutes.
Some helpful tips:
Use your board to help guide you through your speech.
Have a clear introduction and conclusion to your speech.
Do NOT read your research paper to the class.
You may use index cards to help guide you along but not to directly read from.
Practice at home!! This really helps. Get family members and friends to listen and time you.
Be careful of the overuse of ¨filler¨ words: like, um, ...
Take a deep breath and enjoy explaining your project!
