Senior Lacrosse Girls Transition to Quarantine

George W. Hewlett High School has a rich history in athletics. The Hewlett High School Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Team is consistently one of the best in Nassau County. The senior class is small, close-knit and has been playing together for many years. The girls have been anticipating playing together as seniors for as long as they can remember. Here is a look into the thoughts of the 2020 Hewlett High School Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Team seniors.

“Last year I suffered from an injury that cost me three seasons [of sports]. I worked and prepared all year to get back to being the player I was before the injury. The thing that kept me motivated during my recovery was having another chance to leave everything I have out on that field. Losing this season means losing the last opportunity to wear a Hewlett jersey and losing the senior season that I have been looking forward to since I was a kid.” - Katie Korin

"Three years ago I picked up a stick and played lacrosse for the first time; it’s crazy to think I might not ever play again. I wish I had at least one more game to play in. I will not only miss playing but also watching and cheering on the rest of the spring sports." - Chelsea May

“Even in the first few weeks of the season, before all of this happened, you could tell we had a great and fun group of girls - it was hard not to feel the excitement in the air. Throughout high school, I always looked up to the seniors in the program and wondered how they felt stepping onto the field, knowing it was the[ir] last time. It is very disappointing to not get that closure, fully experience your senior season and miss out on Senior Day, but I am grateful for the few weeks we did get and the past couple of years I spent playing lacrosse.” - Rachel Poutre
