Welcome to Heather's Portfolio
During the emerging technologies project I got to pick my own emerging technology topic. I then complete my research and created a PowerPoint to display my research. I chose to do my topic on VR technology. I have never used VR personally but I was curious to see how people use it personally and also how it gets used from a business perspective. My PowerPoint included information such as description of the topic, advantages and disadvantages, effects on daily life, and how my topic has changed/gotten better over time.
One fun fact I learned after completing my research is that VR can actually be used to help train medical students. Medical students who may be learning surgical procedures are now using VR headset to train and memorize how to perform surgeries. I thought this was quite interesting that VR is being used for such an incredible thing rather then only bring used to play video games. I do think it makes sense because medical students can't exactly use live humans to "practice" their skills.
This is an image I used in my presentation. This image shows a medical student actively using a VR headset to practice a surgical procedure. As we can see the image shares a realistic image of the human body allowing her to safely practice procedures.
During the emerging technologies assignment I was able to learn about a upcoming technology I am not familiar with which was VR technology. I learned about different ways VR is used in the real world outside of personal use for video games. I learned that VR is used in many industry's including education, healthcare, retail, business, personal use, travel, military and so much more. While making my presentation I used the notes section on PowerPoint for the first time. I didn't know how to use that function before this assignment. I really like the notes portion because I was able to add specific in text quotes that supported my information without over crowding my slide. I will definitely utilize the notes section in future presentations.
