Lead Coach Meetings

The group of lead coaches met monthly throughout the time they focused on having peer coaching interactions with other staff. We used it as an opportunity to debrief, discuss, and plan. Below are examples of ways we used these meetings.

Example of Time Spent in Meetings

Check In Time - How is Peer Coaching Going?

We used this time to discuss ways each of us were reaching out to the staff in the library. What programs did we observe and what did we learn? What barriers are staff experiencing to introducing new media in their programming? Give each lead coach the opportunity to share what they've been doing, ask any advice, or share their own advice learned from the programs and conversations over the last month.

App Sharing

Part of the lead coaches' tasks was to keep up with apps on iOS and Android platforms in order to practice good app advisory with other staff and families in the library. At some meetings, we took time to share apps each of them had found. The team also developed a plan to create an instagram page for our library system that shares app recommendations and parent tips.

Tech Time

You can use some of the time to work with new tech in your library together. Did you get a new coding toy? Play with it! Just obtain a 3-D printer? Try printing something together! More than anything, you're developing a habit or even a procedure for your system that will help prepare staff for new tech as it comes in.

We chose the book Becoming a Media Mentor to discuss over the course of four months. These discussions were also a great time to emphasize the Three C's and how they relate to the lead coaches media mentoring experiences. The lead coaches were asked to read the book ahead of time. Go to the section on Book Discussion Questions to see how the conversation can be facilitated.
