How do we conduct our online classes at SEd?
SYNCHRONOUS AND ASYNCHRONOUS CLASSES GUIDELINES
Synchronous sessions shall be met only once per week for a maximum of 60 minutes for the general education courses and at least 60 minutes for the professional and major courses regardless of the circumstances present unless a concession was made by the class to go beyond the prescribed time duration. There shall be no rescheduling of synchronous meetings in cases of suspensions or holidays, unless a concession was made by the class.
Synchronous sessions shall be used for discussion of complex topics, clarifications pertaining to the assignments, and/or discussion of academic requirements. Lectures are not encouraged since we are now using the Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) framework.
Turning on of cameras during synchronous sessions is optional but highly encouraged for checking of attendance, recitation, among others.
In every period of the semester, the number of Assessment Tasks shall not exceed three (3) excluding the major asynchronous examinations.
Punctuality in the submission of requirements must be observed. However, in cases of technical concerns and other valid reasons, late submission shall be allowed through Canvas and/or email a week after a major period (PRELIM, MIDTERM, FINAL) ends. Other messaging applications are allowed, however, Canvas Message is the default medium for submission and messaging.
Attendance and behavior of students in synchronous classes are not part of assessment of student learning or grading. Nevertheless, all students must observe proper decorum, good manners and right conduct, and online etiquette.
For Professional education and Elective courses, the preliminary and midterm examinations shall be conducted synchronously.
Section advisers are enjoined to hold synchronous session once a month intended for homeroom concerns of their advisory class.
The week after a major examination shall be considered as “independent learning week”. There will be no synchronous meetings. During this week, asynchronous tasks like reading, video viewing, or late submission of requirements may be done by the students.
