Shadow Yoga is a school of Hatha Yoga based on the ancient texts. Sundernath, the founder of Shadow Yoga, is an initiate of the Nath Sampradaya tradition. The school's name Shadow Yoga comes from the Shiva Svarodaya and Shiva Samhita texts that describe the human organism as made up of layers of shadows or entrapments. The principles and practices taught in Shadow Yoga provide tools to disperse these layers of 'shadow' to reveal the inner light. Shadow Yoga reintroduces preparatory forms (with an emphasis on simple squats and learning to lower and raise the body) and use of the karanas (causal factor for action or transformation) that have been left out of current approaches to hatha yoga, these forms prepare not only the body but also the mind.
"The path that leads to adept is one of adaptation and does not depend on talent or ability but is the outcome of application, openness and trust of the unbroken tradition." – Sundernath
