FitBit is an app that will connect to your smartwatch and allow you to track your sleep and physical activity. It will also allow the smartwatch to communicate with your phone.
Download the Fitbit app from either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Open the application and login with the Fitbit email and password information that you were given. Select Charge 5 when asked what device you are setting up.
Follow the onscreen instructions to connect your Fitbit to the account and pair with your mobile phone:
Step 1: If the device is not charged, plug it in first to begin pairing.
Step 2: Make sure to hit "Allow" when prompted to connect to Bluetooth.
Step 3: To complete pairing, enter the pin that appears on the screen of your Fitbit into the app on your phone
Step 4: Tap the "X" in the top right corner when asked to pay for premium.
Step 5: Adjust your location settings:
For Android: Go to Settings → Search “Location” → Find the FitBit app and place it under “Allowed All The Time” section
For Apple: Go to Settings → Scroll to the FitBit app → Tap on Location and select Always
Enter your birthdate, weight, height, and sex:
Step 1: Tap on the “Today” tab to get to the main screen of the Fitbit app. Then tap onto the Profile Icon in the top left corner of the screen.
Step 2: Tap on “View Your Profile” or “Your Name.”
Step 3: Tap on ”Personal"
Step 4: Tap into each box to enter the your Name, Birthday, Sex, Height, and Weight. By indicating this information, the app can provide you with more relevant and accurate stats for you.
From the main Fitbit screen, or “Today” tab, tap the the Profile Icon in the top left corner.
On the fourth row, tap onto the image of the “Charge 5” device.
Scroll down & Tap ”Wrist” or ”Wrist Placement.” Select “Non-Dominant” since you will be wearing it on your non-dominant wrist.
From the main Fitbit screen, or “Today” tab, tap the the Profile Icon in the top left corner.
On the fourth row, tap onto the image of the “Charge 5” device.
Tap on “Notifications” and turn off all calls, texts and apps. If you have an Android, turn off calendar events and emails as well
Tap on “High & Low Heart Rate” and turn off all notifications.
Tap on “Reminders to Move” and switch notifications off.
Open the Fitbit app. A notification should be shown at the top of the main screen prompting you to sync device To do so, place your finger anywhere on the home/Today screen, and drag your finger downward.
2. “Syncing your Charge 5” will show at the top and will be followed by “Sync Complete” when it is successful.
3. As a tip, keep Bluetooth turned on in your phone settings and allow the Fitbit app to run in the background to encourage proper syncing over the course of the study.
Syncing is something that you will need to do every few days in order to be sure that your data from your watch is being sent to the app.
The Fitbit is not waterproof. Please be sure to remove the watch when showering or swimming.
The Fitbit is made up of materials that include nickel and acrylates. If irritation occurs, immediately remove the watch and notify us as soon as possible. We will work to resolve the discomfort, if possible. Otherwise, you can return the watch back to us free of charge.
A fully charged Fitbit Charge 5 has a battery life of 5-7 days. A full charge takes 1-2 hours. Try to charge your watch once every 3-5 days. To charge the device, follow these instructions:
Plug the charging cord into the USB wall charger we provided you or a USB port on a computer.
Align the pins on the charging cable to with the port on the Fitbit.
Note: The strip is magnetic and should attach automatically when aligned correctly. Make sure you feel the Fitbit click into the charger
Find a consistent time in your schedule to charge the watch when your battery gets below 20%, preferably not during times when you are sleeping or engaging in physical activity. Examples of good times include while showering or eating
