The 50 shades of Rebetiko
This workshop offers an exploration of the diverse dimensions of Greek-speaking folk music from the gramophone era. We will examine different interpretation styles, varied approaches to orchestration, and the multiple ways in which the folk modal (makam) system is applied.
Using a selection of characteristic songs—each representing a distinct stylistic or regional category—we will highlight and compare these musical differences.
The workshop is open to anyone interested in learning about Rebetiko, whether amateur or professional. All instruments are welcome.
