Technology Expectations

Students are allowed internet access for school research with parent permission.  All students accessing the internet must sign and have a parent signature on the BSD Network Access Agreement form, as well as abiding by the school board policy set forth by IIBGA-AR.  In addition to the District Network Agreement, students agree to the following:

1. Access to email, unless for school related items, is not allowed.

2. Access/posting to social networking sites such as Facebook, Snapchat, etc. is not allowed.

3. Downloading software, music or videos is not allowed without prior approval.

4. All internet traffic is filtered and monitored by Bandon School District while accessing the BSD network.  Bandon School District does not filter internet access at home, as it is not our network connection. 

5. A violation of the agreement or policy will result in loss of internet/technology privileges.

As mandated by Governor Tina Kotek’s Executive Order 25-09 & updated District Policy JFCEB, all Oregon school districts must prohibit the use of personal electronic devices during the school day.  Harbor Lights Middle School will implement a district-wide ban on student cell phones, smartwatches, and similar devices during school hours to promote student mental health, reduce distractions, and enhance learning outcomes. 

Covered Devices -
This policy applies to all personal electronic devices capable of calling, texting, or accessing the Internet independently from school systems, including but not limited to:

• Cell phones

• Smartwatches

• Headphones or earbuds 

• Any similar portable electronics

Device storage procedure when student is caught with their phone

1. The student will give their personal electronic device to the teacher.  The teacher will then place the student's phone in a Yondr pouch.  

2. Students will keep the sealed Yondr pouch on their person throughout the day.

3. Devices will be unlocked at the end of the school day, in the main office.
