School Transportation

Students using Bandon School District transportation will need to have a consistent transportation plan.  Students may have more than one pick up/drop off location throughout the week, but changes need to be made one week in advance whenever possible.  Building administration has the right to make exceptions for urgent/emergent circumstances.  Please contact the HLMS office at 541-347-4415 PRIOR to 2pm to make/change your child’s transportation plan.

Riding the bus is a privilege.  Improper conduct on the buses will result in that privilege being denied.  For general bus behavior expectations, see “Bus” in our Conduct Expectations table.  Transportation disciplinary procedures are as follows: 

1. 1st Citation: Verbal warning and warning citation.

2. 2nd Citation: Citation, building administrator and parent contacted, potential for removal from bus up to 3 days.

3. 3rd Citation: Citation, bus suspension for up to 10 days, parent conference required before returning to bus.  A behavior contract and assigned seat may be required.  Further violations will be considered Severe/Chronic violations.

4. Severe/Chronic Violations: Severe and or chronic violations of bus safety expectations will result in suspension of the student from transportation services for a duration of 10 days up to the remainder of the school year.  There will be a hearing at this time, arranged by the transportation supervisor, involving the transportation department, building administrator, student, and parent(s).

5. Fighting, wrestling, boisterous behavior and throwing objects on the bus may be considered severe behavior and may result in an automatic suspension from riding.  This is at the discretion of the Director of Transportation and building administrator.

Only regularly scheduled bus students are to ride the school buses.  Bus students are to go directly to their bus immediately after the bell rings.  In the event of delayed bus arrival, students are to stand in the appropriate area and wait calmly behind the yellow line for the bus to arrive.   

     Students not riding a bus are not allowed in the bus area and should head directly to their after school location.  Students waiting for a ride are to wait at the front of the building and be aware of cars approaching to pick up students.  Students should not re-enter the building once outside unless they need access to a phone to contact their parent/ride.
