Bandon School District is a drug and weapon-free school district. Our mission promotes the health, safety, and education of the whole student. We promote preventative programs including health education, physical education, and conflict resolution. Please see below for our Tobacco/Vaping and Alcohol/Drug policies. Any possession of a weapon (real or look alike) may result in an out of school suspension pending an expulsion hearing, as well as notification of local law enforcement.
Student possession, use, sale or distribution of tobacco in any form, or inhalant delivery systems, on school premises, including buses, or at any school-sponsored activity, including preseason and postseason practices or activities is prohibited in accordance with Oregon law and BSD School Board Policies JFCG/JFCH/JFCI. Violations of this policy will result in the following procedures:
Note: First, second, and third offenses will follow the student from 5th grade through 8th grade. It will not start over at the beginning of each academic year. Students will receive a fresh start upon the start of 9th grade. Any third-party evaluations will be at the parent’s expense. The administration reserves the option to recommend expulsion at any point of the process.
First Offense:
Meeting with principal including phone call to parents.
Two-day in-school suspension.
Two-week (14 calendar days) activity suspension, including all school-sponsored activities, athletics and extra-curricular events.
Second Offense:
Meeting with the principal and parents.
Four-day in-school suspension.
Seven-week (50 calendar days) activity suspension, including all school-sponsored activities, athletics and extra-curricular events.
Third Offense:
Meeting with the principal, parents, and superintendent.
Possible out-of-school suspension.
Activity suspension, including all school-sponsored activities, athletics and extra-curricular events; duration determined by administration.
Student possession, use, sale or distribution of alcohol, any unlawful drug, drug paraphernalia, or any substance purported to be a drug, including misuse of non-prescription drugs or misuse of drugs prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner, on school premises including buses or at any school-sponsored activity, including preseason and postseason practices or activities is prohibited in accordance with Oregon law and BSD School Board policies JFCG/JFCH/JFCI. Violations of this policy will result in the following procedures:
First Offense:
Police notification.
Up to 10 day in school suspension. (May be reduced in half with agreement to enter into drug and alcohol counseling at parent’s expense).
Two week (14 calendar days) activity suspension, including all school-sponsored activities, athletics and extra-curricular events.
Any third party evaluations will be at the parent’s expense.
Second Offense:
Police Notification.
Suspension pending possible expulsion.
Third party evaluation at parent’s expense will be required before returning to school.
