Plastic Pollution: Dangers, Causes, Harms, and Solutions
By Grayson Suh
Plastic pollution is a big problem for the environment and people. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste end up in oceans, rivers, and on land. This causes damage to animals, plants, and even human health.
Plastic takes hundreds of years to break down. It breaks into tiny pieces called microplastics that get into the food we eat and the water we drink. Animals often mistake plastic for food, which can hurt or kill them. Plastic can also carry harmful chemicals that spread through the environment.
Plastic pollution mainly comes from single-use plastics like bags, bottles, and packaging. These are used once and thrown away. Poor waste management and littering make the problem worse, especially in places without good recycling or trash collection.
Environmental harm: Plastics hurt wildlife and damage natural places.
Economic harm: Plastic pollution costs money by harming fishing, tourism, and shipping.
Health harm: Chemicals in plastics may cause health problems, and microplastics in food can affect people.
These are all of the lists that plastic pollution can cause!
Now for what to do as helpers!
Use less plastic: Choose reusable and biodegradable products.
Better waste management: Improve recycling and trash collection.
Laws and rules: Governments can ban some plastics and encourage recycling.
Education: Teach people about plastic pollution and how to reduce it.
Cleanups: Remove plastic waste from nature.
Plastic pollution is a serious problem, but we can fix it by working together to reduce plastic use, manage waste better, and protect our environment.
