Inspiration
My inspiration 4 this project was Jean-Paul Gaugin's diptych art of him & his son. This work explores perspective and connection. Contrasting perspectives & bold colors (warm & cold) inspired me 2 capture me & mom 2 emphasize how perspectives form memory & relationships.I found diff types of diptych. (300)
Planning and Practice
Small mind map 4 ideation&focused on improving colored pencil&using diptych w/ p6 + practiced w/ colored pencils drawing objects 2 pratice value&color layering + edited ref img using iPad of mom & a holding phone 4 a pic, making sure both images match well 2gether (measurements and color contrast) (298)
Experimentation
Experimented w/ different backgrounds. 1) add someone by my mom's side 2 make the work look more "packed", 2) add people (family members) in background (both ideas focused on highlighting mom), 3) no people except mom, just umbrellas 2 only focus on mom to2emphasize moments of my mom's & mine. (294)
Process
Started by drawing mom using colored pencil, making sure the shadows&depth look natural + drew background using colored pencil of beach, wall, &sand + added sunlight shine reflecting on beach using gel pen, digitally drew hand, phone, &chair because it didn't look good on paper (looked transparent) (299)
Reflection and Revision
I am satisfied with some parts of the outcome for this project. I think I can make some revisions before submitting this piece on college board though. I really liked the diptych idea inspired by Jean-Paul Gaugin's artwork "The Sculptor Aubé and His Son, Emile". The color contrast of warm and cold in background really stood out to me. I think I have to add more details on my mom's portrait and make it look neater. I also think I should add more subjects for backrground to make it look less empty. I used my project 6 to diptych with this project because it uses both perspective of my mother and I, making it look like a story. My favorite part experimenting with backgrounds because I had several ideas. My least favorite part and the most difficult part of this project was drawing the sand and the phone. I didn't know how to make it look realistic and clean. I plan to revise it (and the whole project too). I hope others view my work as a connected story, with small moments with my mom building up to shape who I am, showing both perspectives.
