Planning and Practice
Started w/ a mind map for ideation, edited & adjusted colors, hue, & saturation of reference image or bowls, plates, & cups on the iPad, practiced w/ colored pencil skills by drawing 3 objects. I focused on enhancing texture, shading, & pencil color layers. Also used MrsTFoxResources videos. (293)
Experimentation
After finishing the bowl/plate/cup and real/fake food drawings, I experimented with various placement of toy food (grape, tomato, egg, pear) using iPad edits to decide the final placement that is most visually pleasing composition and balance between real and fake elements. (275)
Process
Colored pencil 2 draw objects, layering multiple times & + pressure 4 specific colors 4 values & depth 4 realism. + patterned tape as new material & coloring over it 4 depth. Drew real&fake food on different paper & cut them out. The toy food shows shiny highlights 2 emphasize its toy-like visual. (299)
Reflection and Revision
I am satisfied with my artwork. I think I grew by becoming better at drawing objects using colored pencils. I gained a deeper understanding of layering and value, which helped me create depth in my work. My inspiration was Jeffery Smart, an artist who draw objects with depth and value through light pressure and skills. His use of colors and the way he added depth are beautiful. The biggest challenge was editing where the real and fake food should be placed. I wanted to make sure the placement looked visually balanced. I used colored pencils for p4, which helped improve my skills in blending and layering. The theme of nurture and learning also connects to my previous artworks. My favorite part was drawing the stacked cups and tea pot. The color choices were great and I love the way it turned out. My least favorite part was working with the patterned tapes. I had to cut them carefully to make them blend in to the work. It consumed a decent amount of time due to the measurements of the tape. I plan to revise this part to make the tape look more visible. In conclusion, I hope others view my work as more than just me mimicking my mom. It is about how growing up with her shaped who I am. This is not about traditional gender roles. It is about learning to become like her and reflecting on the memories I've had.
