Inspiration
O'Keeffe is known for her large-scale/close-up paintings of flowers, landscapes, & bones. She often explores themes of complexity & beauty of nature, and emotional depth, using colors (simple yet complex style) and perspectives of the subjects to convey the link between human experience and nature. (299)
Planning and Practice
Mind map created for exploring mom & me bond using flowers (non human/objects), edited 3 ref imgs and chose one for final piece, worked on water droplet visual using ibis X Paint & hot gluegun to add texture, practiced color pencil drawings of flower, focusing on details, shading, and blending. (295)
Experimentation
exp1: arranged multiple placements of hot glue water droplets on final piece 2 find best visual of tall flower watering short flower. exp2: edited reference img to adjust water droplet quality for the final composition (make water droplet art using color pencils before hot glue layer). (286)
Process
1st (img 1-4) sketched & drew flowers w color pencils, painted the background w watercolor paint. 4 water droplets, sketched them w color pencil, layered w hot glue, then attached them to the final piece (img 5 and 6). Used Ibis Paint X 4 final edits 2 enhance details especially around the flowers. (299)
Reflection and Revision
I am pretty satisfied with the main subjects I drew in the final project and the use hot glue for texture (new material too). I believe there are some parts I can improve, such as the background because it isn't cohesive as I wanted it to be. I have enhanced my color pencil skills and found new ways to add texture in 2D art. This work was inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe's artworks, especially the flower works. It helped me find a way to show the bond between me and my mom through subjects that doesn't show us directly. The most difficult part of this project was working on the background after finishing the flowers. I had to be careful to not destroy the flowers since I used watercolor for background and color pencil for the flowers. The use of white line around the flowers connect to previous work, which highlights the interaction between the two subjects, showing synthesis (from p1). My favorite part was coloring the flowers, especially the red one. It became prettier as I added layers. My least favorite part was using the hot glue to make the water droplets because I accidentally hurt myself multiple times. In conclusion, I hope the viewers of my work understand the abstract representation of a mom nurturing a child.
