Community-engaged learning project description & Reflection:
For this coursework I was able to complete an assignment that involved learning about the American with impairments Act (ADA) and accessibility for people with impairments, we went to the In-N-Out at Jordan Landing in Salt Lake City, Utah. We were really happy with In-N-Out and how well the business complies with ADA laws. The following appropriately sized and labeled accessible parking spaces, along with enough spaces for disabled vehicles and sidewalk ramps, impressed us. After finishing this assignment, I became aware of how crucial ADA compliance is for individuals who use wheelchairs, particularly in fast food restaurants. This will enable me to assist clients in compliance with ADA regulations in public areas as a future occupational therapist. I was able to understand how accessible parking spaces and specific ramps can help clients who use wheelchairs after learning about the Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Knowing about ADA laws as a future occupational therapist would help persons with disabilities have the same chances as everyone else when they go out in public spaces that comply with the appropriate ADA requirements, such as not having a high ramp or steps. This will make it easier for clients to go out to fast food restaurants with their family and not worry about whether or not their wheelchair is accessible.
