Wait... What is I-O psychology?

Broadly speaking, I-O is the scientific exploration and application of psychological principles at work, including both the workers (the I side) and the workplace (the O side). Additionally, occupational health psychology (OHP) focuses on psychological and physical health, safety, and well-being of workers and workplaces. You can learn more about I-O here: https://www.siop.org/

What are your research interests?

I'm interested in OHP, including the work-nonwork interface, gender dynamics, and various stressor/strain relationships. Specifically, my interests revolve around boundary management, workaholism and overwork, and inequities.

What else are you interested in?

In terms of research, I'm also interested in psychometrics, personality (individual differences), mixed methods, and meta-analysis.

I'm also interested in making sure that research is openly accessible and communicated appropriately so that academic research can have an impact on the populations we intend to serve (e.g., open science). This also relates to my philosophy of teaching, which is guided by my belief that my role as an instructor is to create an environment that facilitates active learning, curiosity, and critical thinking for my students. I'm passionate about having access to information and having the skills to understand said information.

What is your teaching style?

My purpose is to serve as a facilitator and guide throughout any given course. One of the most important skills that my students develop is critical thinking, and I use a variety of strategies, learning technologies, and activities to build this skill - as well as content knowledge. My students are encouraged to pursue topics that are interesting to them and spark curiosity, which also helps foster diversity of thoughts, backgrounds, and perspectives in the classroom.

For more information on my teaching style and philosophy, you can review my teaching portfolio on my OSF page.

Are you recruiting PhD students?

I am currently open to having a PhD student join my lab for Fall 2024. Please contact me if you are interested.

So, do you have time for fun?

Of course! I have two cats that take up much of my free time, and I enjoy cooking, being active, and spending time outdoors. I love podcasts, shows like Criminal Minds and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, contemporary art, indie music, and mystery novels.
