As part of the Society for Development and Promotion of Engineering and Sciences (SPADES) at LUMS, I founded the Science Communication Department of ATLAS, a student-led initiative with a bold mission: to make science accessible, engaging, and exciting for students across Pakistan. Through three distinct segments: writing, visuals and podcasts, we reimagined how scientific ideas could be shared beyond classrooms and textbooks. In its very first year, ATLAS captivated an audience of over 80,000 science enthusiasts nationwide, sparking curiosity and conversation among young minds across the country.
I initiated and led the launch of one of Pakistan’s first science podcast series, an innovative platform where leading researchers and science communicators engaged directly with public curiosity. Each episode featured thought-provoking conversations with prominent figures such as Dr. Salman Hameed, Dr. Sabieh Anwar and Dr. Mubashir Rehmani, among others. The series became a hub for dialogue between scientists and the wider community, reaching tens of thousands of listeners and offering young science enthusiasts a rare opportunity to learn from and connect with the minds shaping the frontiers of research.
I had the honour of moderating a live session with Dr. Salman Hameed, Pakistan’s most prominent science communicator, known for his YouTube outreach to over 50,000 subscribers. Together, we explored competing cosmological models of the universe and their implications, guiding a rich and engaging discussion. The event drew a live audience of over 500 participants, many of whom shared how the session deepened their understanding and curiosity about the cosmos.
To make science more accessible and spark curiosity, ATLAS published weekly articles, each limited to just 200 words to ensure clarity and engagement. These concise pieces aimed to introduce readers to scientific mysteries and inspire further exploration. Covering a broad spectrum of topics, from astronomy and medicine to technology and artificial intelligence, the articles served as entry points into the wonders of science. I demonstrated excellent writing and proofreading skills, ensuring that the readers received quality but concise scientific content. Many readers shared that these bite-sized insights became a gateway to deeper independent research and learning.
To share our passion for science, ATLAS produced a series of engaging science videos designed to spark curiosity and wonder in young minds. By blending storytelling with scientific insight, we aimed to make complex concepts fun, accessible and visually compelling. The series garnered nearly 20,000 views across social media, marking it as a remarkable success in science outreach. Teachers and students alike used the videos as learning tools, extending their impact beyond entertainment to education.
