Hackers who participate in Hack for Black Lives are simply people who are passionate about making an impact on the Black Lives Matter movement. While traditionally hackathons are for people with technical training, Hack for Black Lives is for anyone who wants to create a solution for the Black Lives Matter movement. Hacking for Black Lives is creating anything: a piece of software, an educational children's book, a social media campaign, a book club, literally anything you can think of that supports the Black Lives Matter movement. So, long story short, you have the power to be a Hacker for Black Lives, no matter what your skills or background is in. Need some more inspiration? Check out our projects page for inspiration on what you can create!
Check out our FAQ page if you have any questions. Here are a few things we will clarify upfront.
Do I have to be a computer science major to 'hack'? No! We only define 'hacking' as simply creating something, anything! In fact, we encourage people of all educational backgrounds to 'hack' and leverage their skills and what they are passionate about to make something to support the Black Lives Matter Movement.
Do I need a team to sign up? Nope! You can sign up as an individual and we will help you meet other amazing people to create your own hackathon team.
Do I need an idea of something to make to sign up? Nope! Come the time of the hackathon, we will have plenty of resources and mentors to help you figure out what to make. All you need to bring is a passion to create something to support the Black Lives Matter Movement.
