In the MitoMetaTis project, we want to understand the tissue-specific expression of genes involved in mitochondrial functions (mito-genes), as well as in general, cellular metabolism and investigate, how mitochondria are able to adapt to their host cell.
To this end, we are combining force with Arnaud Mourier (IGBC, Bordeaux) and Laurent Tichit (I2M, Marseille) to 1) establish a systematic multi-omic dataset of 8 different mouse tissues, comprised of proteomics and metabolomics (targeted and unbiased) data, which we will combine with publicy available gene expression data; 2) develop further the mitoXplorer platform to be able to integrate such multi-omics data using multi-layer networks; and 3) use the new version of mitoXplorer to investigate the tissue-specific behaviour of mito-genes and metabolism in these 8 different tissues.
Team Habermann: Computational Biology (Aix-Marseille University, CNRS, IBDM UMR 7288, official team-website)
The computational biology team at the IBDM focuses on data analysis, integration and visual data mining (VMD). The VMD platform mitoXplorer will be central to the MitoMetaTis project, providing the computational framework for data analysis, integration and visualization and help us understand the complex mitochondrial dynamics in different mammalian tissues. We will furthermore profit from metabolic models like mitoMammal, which will help us establish a multilayer network for data integration.
We will further develop mitoXplorer to be able to integrate metabolic data generated in Arnaud's team (see below), as well as publicly available ATAC-seq and ChIP-seq data using multilayer networks, as well as model metabolism in different tissues using our mitoMammal metabolic model in combination with Flux Balance Analysis.
Our second partner, Laurent, will be essential to establish the techniques in multilayer network generation and analysis.

Team Tichit: ALEA-BMA-MABioS (Aix-Marseille University, CNRS, I2M UMR 7373)
Laurent Tichit is a Maitre de Conference in the I2M team at the Aix-Marseille University. He is an expert in graph theory and multilayer networks. He will be co-supervising the project and contribute with his invaluable knowledge and experience in graph theory and in working with multilayer networks to find important network modules in the tissue-specific mitochondrial interactomes.

Laurent Tichit
Associate Professor
Team Mourier: BioDynaMit team (CNRS, University of Bordeaux, IGBC UMR5095)
Arnaud Mourier is a CRNS CRCN and leads the BioDynaMit team at the IBGC (CNRS-Bordeaux). Some of his main objectives is to decipher the link between mitochondrial morphology, mitochondrial genetics and bioenergetics and to investigate modulation of OXPHOS system structure and composition allowing mitochondria to adapt to various tissues specific energy demands under physiological or pathological conditions. He will be carrying out tissue-specific multi-omics studies, feeding data and invaluable knowledge in the theoretical models and tools created by the Habermann and Tichit teams.
