All gardening kits have been given out! Check out our website to learn more about our work!
Every kit should have one of each of the following:
Envelope of mixed seeds
17" plastic planter (16.6" x 7" x 6.8")
6 qt. bag of Miracle-Gro dirt
Pick up your kit(s) and bring it to the rooftop or other space in which you intend to set up your garden. Do not put bins too close to the edge or anywhere they may be at risk of falling off the roof or otherwise disturbed.
Pour roughly ⁹/₁₀ᵗʰˢ of the bag of soil into each planter. Pat the dirt down lightly, but not enough to cause the soil to become too compact.
Sprinkle the seeds evenly, allowing the seeds to cover the entirety of the soil.
Cover the seeds with the remaining soil.
Water the garden until the top layer of soil appears a dark brown color.
Be sure to monitor your garden! Due to the ongoing drought, you may have to manually water your garden due to lack of rainfall.
We will send out a follow-up form where we will ask you to send us pictures of your garden and feedback in order for us to improve our work and demonstrate results to our donors.
Couldn't get a kit? Don't worry, you can always make one at home using any outdoor area with access to sunlight and rainfall! Products we recommend can be found below.
