This scholarship has been instituted in memory of Prof. Krishna Kumar Jha. Prof. K.K. Jha, a native of Kabilpur, Darbhanga, was a professor of Botany in Bihar University, Muzaffarpur. He understood the value of higher education and was an enthusiastic supporter of higher education for the underprivileged.
The aim is to provide a college scholarship to a meritorious student from a poor family who, otherwise, will find it very difficult to afford college education. To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be from a family below poverty line (BPL) and must be in good academic standing to enable the student to get admission in a respected college in 2018 for post-secondary education. The student must be in class XII at the time of application.
A student must submit the following to be considered for the scholarship.
- BPL certificate.
- Mark-sheet of class X Board Examination, mark-sheet of class XI internal examination, and mark-sheet of class XII Board Examination.
- A letter of recommendation from a teacher in school.
- An short essay detailing what the student’s career goal is and what college the student wants to attend.
After receiving all the applications, the trustees of Gyanshakti Trust will choose the best candidate/s. The winner of the scholarship will receive an award of up to Rs. 50,000 per year to cover the tuition and living expenses. Other smaller one time awards are also possible subject to availability of funding. The scholarship will be renewed in the second and third year of college conditional on satisfactory academic progress. Recipients will be expected to promote objectives of the trust by writing reports or giving talks at schools.
