Come up with some concrete ideas/designs for a new appendage. Remember, there are no wrong ideas! Just be sure to have something :)
Further investigate motor control and python. Take a look at the code in the repo I added you to!
All - Find at least 3 videos of people (or "people") speaking and gesturing in a manner you like.
Look for ways emotion, thought, opinion, context, etc. are communicated through both vocal and gestural language. Think about how this may translate to a robot. How would this be expressed with only five degrees of freedom? Where is Shimi most expressive? Take notes with time codes in the videos, and be ready to share your opinions.
Tomer and James - Start thinking of...
- We have a camera (https://bit.ly/2N2iq4I) and a microphone array (https://amzn.to/2wZH4b5) we need to integrate into the design of Shimi. They could be integrated into the body, in the new appendage, etc. Start thinking about where the best places for these parts may be.
- We have a new appendage to design!
I'm working on getting you the 3D models of Shimi, but they haven't come in yet. All the design documents that I've received can be found here: https://bit.ly/2Ntf4qR. Knowing how Shimi looks now, think about and (if you want) mock up some renderings of something that might replace the phone holder.
- Take a look at Dynamixel MX-28 documentation (https://bit.ly/2MjKcEF) and PyPot documentation (https://bit.ly/2MjLpMd). These are the motors and software library we are using to control them.
- Subtlety is key, over exaggeration isn't always effective
- Understanding the context of a gesture
