Week of 8 February
This week I was assigned the task of looking through the various hip hop analysis resources Richard posted on slack. I turned up with some notes on the articles which reported the work done, and found a particularly useful API, Raplyzer, for finding multi-syllabic lines and assonance using text-to-speech engine named eSpeak. I have provided a link to my notes below.
Week of 2/21/2019
This week I spent time researching the things I was told to look into at last week's meeting. I spent some time looking into chord analysis of R&B songs, looked into analyses of some specific songs I enjoyed, and also created a catalogue of 207 songs that I thought would be fit for analyzing should a chord-based analysis be of some use in the future. I also brainstormed ideas and looked for resources in the realm of chord analysis in the scope of this semester's work, but unfortunately I found little in that regard to help me. I collected notes on all of this as well, which I will have posted below.
Week of 11 April
The last two weeks since my 3/4 presentation, Richard has tasked me with getting a python API, Scattertext, working with Rob's method of indexing rappers' lyrics from genius. I have gotten the API to work more or less seamlessly this week, and have included an example printout below of how it analyzes Aesop Rock's and Rakim's lyrics when compared to each other.
