ELECTRICAL:
- Professor had to cancel meeting regarding electrical schematic due to some faculty issues
- Tried to go to EE peer mentoring center several times but was out o the 2 times I've gone so far, either nobody could help, or the mentor was not there
- Managed to get ahold of another professor
- NEED to see if Jetson's 19v power supply has enough wattage to power both Jetson and crl board. (roughly 200 watts!!)
- Jetson power supply max wattage is 90 Watts
- If not, do we really need I power supply bc:
- Not easy or simple solution because then there are very limited amounts of power supplies that produce the 19v needed and have enough power for both loads. Then have to see if there are any sensitive analog stuff on Jetson because this would decide whether we use expensive linear regulators which do not produce noise but can be pretty wasteful (about 40+ watts of heat, waste) or use switch regulators which produce noise which can only be used if the Jetson does not have sensitive analog components.
- OR see if jetson can be powered by 12V, and then buy a new 12V power supply that has enough power to maintain both control board and jetson
- Jetson can technically have a power input between 9 and 19V so this is possible
To Summarize, we need a new power supply as the current ones are not powerful enough for both control board and jetson. Even if we were to get another power supply for free (by asking NVIDIA or something similar), this will cost several hundred dollars, and be pretty finicky in terms of parts and calculations. IT IS possible, but expensive and time consuming so the question is: Is this WORTH it? Do we WANT to put this time and energy into making 1 power supply out of 2? If so, I can get started and start looking for the necessary parts, but in my personal opinion, the cost of combining the two supplies is not worth the effort. Having to plug in two supplies vs one is not that much of a hassle.
