Next Meet Up: 21st March 2026 Greenwich Park Maze Entrance 11.30am
When it comes to comfort, convenience and a touch of sausage drama - we've got it all covered (literally...in blankets).
Beds & Blankets:
There are blanketd EVERYWHERE in my house - and Ralph wouldn't have it any other way. His favourite way to relax is fully wrapped up like a burrito or lying on his back, legs wide in the air without a care in the world!
Ralph has the Petface Ultimate Luxury Memory Foam Pet Bed from Argos. It's super comfy and supportive for his joints - though he doesn't use it quite as much as I'd like, it's perfect for when he does decide to settle in for a nap.
Bowls & Feeding:
Ralph eats from the Pet Wiz Raised Ceramic Bowls from Amazon. They're raised and angled, which helps digestion and takes pressure off his neck and chest. I pop a slow feeder insert into his bowl to stop him inhaling his food (because we all know dachshunds don't chew, they just...hoover). He also loves his licky mat and snuffle mat, which keep him busy and mentally stimulated - perfect for rainy days or when I need five minutes peace!
Crate Training:
Ralph isn't crate trained...yet! I started when he was a puppy but, well - let's just say it didn't quite go to plan. It's definitely something I need to revisit, especially in case he ever needs crate rest for recovery or an overnight vet stay.
Toys & Enrichment:
If it has eyes...it no longer does! My poor nan has performed more toy surgeries than I can count! Anything squeaky is doomed within minutes, but he has a great time in the process. He loves his kong, puzzle toys, and anything that lets him put those dachshund detective skills to use (sniffing, digging, and destroying).
Travel & Adventures:
Ralph travels in style in his Coast 3 in 1 Pet Stroller, which we use for longer days out or public transport - like our Isle of Wight trip! It's also handy when we're out eating somewhere dog friendly, giving him a comfy little space to chill. He's not the biggest fan, but he tolerates it with dignity (and treats).
I've looked into a sling or carry bag, but since he's on the heavier side, I think I'd need a personal trainer first!
In the car, he's upgraded to having the entire back seat (covered, of course). He's buckled in with his own seatbelt, because safety first! When he was youngrt, we tried a few enclosed seats and booster setups, but he grew out of them - and jumped out of them! He's also learned how to open the windows, so now the window and child lock stays firmly on.
Steps & Ramps:
Keeping Ralph's little legs and back safe is a full time job! Especially with his LP & HP and general sausage dog dramatics. After trying a few different options over the years, the steps that have worked best for him are the Furrypaws Dog Steps from Amazon. These are ones are the ones Ralph uses, they are soft, slope style stair design rather than individual blocky steps, which has made a huge difference. Ralph loves them because they are sturdier and more supportive, the gradual slope is easier on his back and knees, the bottom surface has grip so Ralph doesn't slide and he confidently uses them to get on and off the bed...with the occasional leap of faith still!
Ralphs Tip: "Beds are optional. Blankets are essential. And windows are for looking out - even if Mum disagrees".
