WiFi & Printing

Students will automatically be connected to the Greenville County Schools WiFi when on a district campus. However, once a student leaves district property, they will need to find a WiFi HotSpot or teether their Chromebook to HotSpot. There are numerous locations in our area that offer FREE WiFi if you do not have WiFi at home. Additionally, Google Products are designed to be accessed Offline so that you can keep editing a Doc, Slide, or Sheet at home without the internet and then upload your changes to your Google Drive when you come back on campus the following day. You can learn more about working offline by following these instructions.

Connecting to Your At Home WiFi

*Please contact your WiFi network provider for assistance with WiFi connection problems.

Google also has support pages to help with Wi-Fi connectivity issues you may experience while using your Chromebook. Please see the following:

Important Tip:

Is your Chromebook connected to your network but you're unable to open any webpages online? Do not forget you have to authenticate when working on a school device away from school.

When students log into their Chromebooks at home, they will need to log into Greenville County School District's authentication system before being given access to any webpages online. To authenticate, students can select the padlock icon on the Chromebook's bottom toolbar (see image).

Enter your student username and password and select the number of hours you will need for online access. To ensure you will not have to continue authenticating while working online choose the maximum number of hours (6). See the authentication screenshot above.

Printing from Chromebooks Using a Home Printer

Students can use a home printer in order to print from their Chromebooks if the printer is capable of Cloud printing. Chromebooks are different from traditional laptops and computers. You cannot print from a Chromebook by connecting your printer's USB cable to one of the Chromebook's USB ports.

Unfortunately, using a direct printer to Chromebook cable connection will not enable Chromebook printing. If you are unsure as to whether your home printer has Cloud printing enabled, please contact the manufacturer or consult a manual for directions. Google also has support pages that are listed below.

*Google support also includes directions that may provide a work around in using classic printers for cloud printing. Please note this has not been successfully verified with Chromebooks, but parents and students with classic printers may still want to try this option. Directions for Cloud printing from both Cloud enabled printers and classic printers are included in the Google Support pages linked below:
