Frequently Asked Questions

What Am I Receiving This Year?

Every student at Greenville High School will be receiving a Lenovo 100e Chromebooks, a charger, and a protective case. For more information regarding Greenville County School District's 1:1 initiative please follow this link.

When Will Students Receive These?

Students will be issued a Chromebook at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. Students will be given a time to pick up their Chromebook during the first week of school.

**Please note: Access to Google Drive/your Greenville Schools Account is generally not available for 24-48 hours after enrollment.

How Much Is This Going to Cost?

Every student in Greenville County will be receiving a Chromebook. A Technology Fee will not be required for the 2022-2023 school year. Fees due in previous years are still the responsibility of the student.

What Happens If My Chromebook Breaks?

Things happen throughout the year that prevent your Chromebook from working properly. If you are having problems with your Chromebook, please bring it to the Media Center either before school or during your lunch break. Mrs. Barton will determine if the problem is covered, accidental damage, or a non-covered issue.

For the 2022-2023 school year, accidental damages will be covered by the school district.

***The Accidental Damage Clause does NOT cover a lost Chromebook or Chromebook Charger-either of those loses will be the responsibility of the student.**

***Students SHOULD NEVER obtain third party repairs on their Chromebook!!!***

How Do I Get My Chromebook Fixed?

Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook issued to them by the District.

Chromebooks that are broken or fail to work properly must be taken to the Media Center during the following times:

8:30-8:45 & During All Three Lunches

You may also want to try troubleshooting your issue before bringing it in for repairs. Please refer to the Repairs & Maintanence Page for further help.

***Any damages that cannot be remedied yourself should be reported IMMEDIATELY to Mrs. Barton. Students should not attempt repairs themselves or take the Chromebook to a third party vendor for repair.***

What If I Lose My Chromebook?

All Chromebooks issued by Greenville County Schools are traceable and trackable by both the district and the Greenville County Sheriff's department.

Students should report the lost Chromebook to Mrs. Barton and/or either Officer Ervin or Officer Center as soon as possible. The student must complete and return a Chromebook Loss Form. Once the form is returned, Mrs. Barton will review replacement options with the student and his or her parents.

Students who obtain a timely police report from the local police may be eligible for a free Chromebook replacement in certain limited circumstances.

What If I Lost My Charger?

Each Chromebook will be issued with a Chromebook Charger. If a student loses his/her charger and/or wishes to purchase an additional charger, they may do so without permission of the school. These chargers can be purchased through various retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, and Staples. Please make sure that the charger is compatible with the Dell Chromebook 11 3180.

The Media Center, also, has chargers for sale for $30. This must be paid before the school will issue a replacement charger.

Can I Print from My Chromebook?

YES! Chromebook Cloud Printing is enabled site wide at Greenville High School. Students will need to select the printer for whatever room they are in OR the Media01 Printer. For more information about Cloud Printing, please see the Instructional Technology Page.

Can I Print from My Chromebook at Home?

YES!!! If you have a WiFi enabled printer that supports Google Cloud Printing, then you should be able to print from home. You may need to download a driver in order to achieve this. Please see the manufacturer's website for your home printer for more information. Additionally, Mrs. Barton may be able to help set this up for you during Chromebook Support hours.

**Please note that Chromebooks cannot print using a printer cable. They are designed for wireless printing ONLY.**

What About Filtering?

Before any district Chromebook device connects to the internet, it has to pass through several firewalls and filters (see WiFi and Printing). This happens whether the device is on campus or using another WiFi router away from school. The Chromebook will always pass through our firewalls and filters regardless of where it is connected. Our web filters are programmed to block inappropriate content as much as possible. Filters are updated on almost a daily basis.

The district has access to student browsing history whether a site is accessed at school or away from campus. Inappropriate web browsing is a violation of the Greenville County Schools Authorized User Policy and may result in disciplinary action. Please keep in mind that these Chromebooks are the property of Greenville County Schools, not the individual student.

What if I forget my password?

Your password is generally set to your date of birth (MMDDYY- ie 033181). Any of your teachers can reset your password for you. Additionally, Mrs. Barton can reset your password for you during Chromebook office hours.

How do I save my work?

Most students are familiar by now with using Google Drive. Every time you log in to your Chromebook, or any Chromebook, you are automatically connected to the Google Drive account associated with your user name. Any time you access a Google Apps for Education product (ex. Google Docs), a file will automatically be created in your Google Drive for that item. Changes are automatically saved in the file.

For more information about using Google Drive, please visit the Instructional Technology Page.

What If I Don't Have WiFi at Home?

That's OK!!! One of the biggest benefits of using a Chromebook is that most products can be accessed offline. This means that you can still access a Doc, Sheet, or Slide at home and edit it. Once you come back to school, or connect to another locat HotSpot, your changes will automatically be uploaded to Google Drive. There are lots of places in the Greenville High community that offer FREE WiFi. Check out the Charter Spectrum WiFi Locator Page.
