Activism

The solutions necessary for climate change far exceed what one individual or congregation can accomplish. It will need cities, states, and nations working together. It will need political leadership - informed by the needs of the community. Faith leaders are uniquely situated to know the concerns of their communities and are encouraged to bring those to the table when decisions are being made as to how to address climate change. All faith leaders have a local voice while some also operate on a state or national level. For those who want to speak into local solutions there are several organizations you can work with.

Sunrise

A Youth led Movement for Climate Change

The Lowell Area's Unique Political Position in Massachusetts with Respect to Climate Change Solutions

One of the state representatives from Lowell heads a committee that oversees all climate related legislation. If he doesn't agree with it, it doesn't leave the committee to get voted on by the rest of the legislature. He has been tentative in bringing significant solutions to the floor because he feels that his constituents will not agree with them. Please empower him by letting him know that you and your congregation support faster and stronger climate change legislation. His name is Tom Golden: Thomas.Golden@mahouse.gov (617) 722-2263.
