WHAT DOES THE HISTORIAN'S OFFICE DO?
Glad you asked! The Municipal Historian handles:
Maintaining, preserving, and teaching the local history as it pertains to the municipality.
Historical record management.
Management of municipal historical archives. (digital and ephemera)
Community education and outreach. (to include resource for public school teachers for 4th and 7th grade local history curriculum. Collect historical items of Greene's past, including ephemera, photographs, artifacts)
Historic Preservation. (consultations, state and national historic registry application and designation, advisor to the municipality, education, grant writing, etc.)
Public event organization. (commemoration of historical anniversaries and other civic or patriotic observations)
Genealogy. (assistance ONLY)
Cemetery History and management. (Greene-Specific)

NOTE: There are some differences in the scope of the Municipal Historian according to New York State and the duties and roles of the Municipal Historian for the Town and Village of Greene, as approved by the municipality to suit the needs of the Town and Village of Greene. PUBLIC RESEARCH
Whether needing a quick fact regarding a matter, seeking old photographs, needing to research through documentation, putting together family genealogy, or any other research-related matters, this office is here to assist you! Please feel free to reach out to the Municipal Historian using the contact information below and I would be happy to meet with you to help pursue your quest for answers. Most written and published material may be copied or photographed. Most ledgers may be viewed, with the exception of legal ledgers (i.e. historical court dockets, legal ephemera, or any other material which may identify personal information). Requests to view historical legal material is on a case-by-case basis (dependent on the necessity to view the material) and the material will be reproduced in a redacted version.
All public domain information may be photocopied at no cost to the researcher. This is a courtesy service to you! If you are not local and would like to have material mailed to you, please indicate in your request and accommodations can be made to send material to you via United State Postal Service.
