The railway has just announced a temporary suspension of train services in September due to construction. Therefore, we will adjust your itinerary and use bus transportation instead.
Day 1: Beijing → Simatai Great Wall → Gubei Water Town → Camping
Travel by bus from Beijing to the Gubei Water Town area, replacing the suspended S501 train. The exact departure time and pickup location will be confirmed separately.
Upon arrival, explore the Simatai section of the Great Wall. This beautifully preserved section features 10 open watchtowers and retains many of its original Ming Dynasty characteristics. Allow approximately four hours for the visit. A cable car is optional and costs approximately $15 one way or $25 round-trip.
Later in the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing visit to Gubei Water Town, often described as the “Wuzhen of Beijing.”
Afterward, transfer to the camping center for a country-style dinner. Spend the night camping in a tent inside an ancient watchtower. Ms. Kang, the assistant camping manager, will help set up the camping equipment. An optional hiking escort is available for an additional RMB 200.
Day 2: Gubeikou → Jinshanling Hike → Camping
After breakfast, a local guide will lead you along an exclusive four-hour hiking route from Gubeikou to Jinshanling, also known as the “Golden Ridge.”
Weather permitting, you may take an optional 20-minute hike to the General Tower to watch the sunset.
Return to the camping center for dinner, followed by a second night camping in the watchtower.
Day 3: Sunrise → Jinshanling Main Entrance to East Entrance → Beijing
Wake early to watch the sunrise over the Great Wall—around 4:00 a.m. in summer or 7:00 a.m. in winter. Ms. Kang will collect the camping equipment at approximately 4:30 a.m. during the summer season.
You will receive a route map and hike independently from Jinshanling’s main entrance to the East Entrance. The hike takes approximately 3–3.5 hours, and our team will meet you at the East Entrance.
After lunch, take the shuttle bus back to Beijing. This bus transfer replaces the suspended 5:00 p.m. S504 train.
