This is one of the most affordable ways for solo travelers or those on a budget to experience the majesty of the Great Wall. By traveling like a local and utilizing public trains, you’ll keep costs low while enjoying a truly authentic adventure.
Daily Availability: This tour runs any day of your choice, provided the weather is safe for hiking.
Easy Rescheduling: Need to pivot? You can change your tour date up to 24 hours before your scheduled departure.
Note: We prioritize your safety and the quality of your experience. In the event of extreme weather, we will work with you to find the next best window for your trek.
The 2T program is an independent tour, not a traditional group or private tour.
Each booking is treated as a self-contained party (family or friends), and we do not intentionally combine unrelated travelers. However, if separate travelers happen to book the same date, the tour may naturally operate in a small group-style format.
Pricing remains independent per booking, with no shared group rates. Even solo travelers can join, making it possible for the tour to operate as a one-person departure.
Where you will hike and camp
The 2T adventure will be a fascinating historical experience for you. It combines camping on the Great Wall with moderate hiking at the original parts of the Great Wall, which are considered one of the most authentic sections of the Wall.
Those areas hold significant historical importance as it was the site of intense fighting between Chinese forces and Japanese invaders in 1931. The tour will take you to see ruined Great Wall towers that once served as headquarters for Chinese defenders. Tragically, around 5,000 Chinese soldiers lost their lives in this battle.
Camping on the Great Wall itself would provide a unique perspective on this ancient structure while the moderate hiking makes it accessible to people with reasonable fitness levels. The combination of natural scenery, historical significance, and the immersive experience of staying overnight on the Wall makes this tour particularly distinctive. Our camping program is featured in the new book “100 Nights of a Lifetime: The World's Ultimate Adventures After Dark”, a National Geographic publication.
We’ve created five flexible packages (2TAM, 2TPM, 2TX, 2TW1, and 2TW2) to suit different travel plans during your stay in Beijing. Choose the one that fits you best and get ready for an unforgettable night under the stars.

SEASONAL FACTOR
During the summer months (May 1 – October 1), the hike can typically be completed before 11:00 am due to the early sunrise between 4:30 and 5:30 am. This allows you the option to catch an earlier bus back to Beijing at 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm, avoiding the need to wait for train S504 at 5:00 pm. The bus will arrive at Donzhimen Transit Hub, a major terminal for buses and subways.
In spring, fall, and winter, however, sunrise is later—around 7:00 to 7:30 am—so the hike starts later, usually around 8:00 or 9:00 am. As a result, you’ll likely return on the S504 train in the afternoon.

The tour will be led by our local Chinese-speaking camping managers and guides, who also operate our camping center—an economy hotel with decent accommodations. They are lifelong residents of the Great Wall region, with families who have lived there for generations. With over 20 years of experience supporting international hikers, they have welcomed more than 15,000 guests.
While occasional miscommunication may occur due to language barriers, our team uses translation apps to assist with communication. Although they cannot provide detailed commentary, they are local experts who will ensure your safety and guide you through the original sections of the Great Wall, where most areas have been damaged over time by natural erosion and past wars.
If you prefer a more affordable experience and do not wish to pay the higher cost of hiring an English-speaking guide, this program is a great fit for you.
Please send us a clear copy of your passports as soon as possible so we can reserve your train tickets in advance.
