We ask that teachers follow the assessment schedule outlined below to ensure consistency in measuring student progress across the Grand Challenges Curriculum. Please administer the pre-tests and post-tests for each unit, along with the affect surveys at both the start and end of the semester/school year. We also encourage you to give an issues-based assessment towards the end of the GC curriculum, with a practice version introduced earlier to help students become familiar with the format. Your cooperation in collecting and sharing the data will greatly support the ongoing development of the curriculum.

Teacher administers the pre-test in class. GC team will coordinate with the teacher to collect the assessments.
End of GC unit 1
Teacher administers the post-test in class. GC team will coordinate with the teacher to collect the assessments.

Mid implementation
Practice Reasoning Assessment (Urbanization & Flooding-optional but recommended)
A follow-up survey to assess changes in students interest. The optional reasoning assessment is to get students familiar with the format. This can be done as group work, home work, or a full-class activity.
End of GC implementation
Recommended toward the end of the semester. A practice version is available to familiarize students with the format.
Affect survey - the affect survey examines student interest in science learning.

Please have students use the link above to complete the affect survey.
Note: We recommend administering the pre-test for each unit alongside the summative post-test of the previous unit to maintain continuity. However, if you are not moving directly into the next unit, you can wait to administer the pre-test. Just be sure to give the pre-test at the beginning of the associated unit to capture an accurate baseline of student understanding.
