Unlike many conventional churches or denominations that have massive policy manuals and doctrinal statements, we are focused on FOUR CORE PRACTICES that are the irreducible minimum standards of our mission. The beliefs and actions embedded in these four practices encompass everything essential to our faith.

Below each practice is the list of fundamental understandings we have about that practice.

Our unity as a simple church movement is found in these core practices. As for all other beliefs, members of our movement have liberty to hold diverse views.

The guiding question in each section can serve as a "measure of the mission" for any group/church.

PRAYING – Following Jesus’ example to care about what God cares about

  • Jesus commanded, taught, and modeled prayer for us.

  • The gospel cannot be shared by human means because it is SPIRIT-ual. The only way to make sense of the gospel and understand the Spirit is to connect with Him through prayer. It is the only way to know His mind, heart, and will.

  • Guiding Question: Are we seeing prayers being answered?

GOING – Doing good everywhere God sends us

  • The Great Commission tells all disciples to go and make disciples.

  • Our identity in Christ is as a “sent” people. We are to be ambassadors, reconcilers, apostles, and servants in our everyday, real life contexts.

  • Guiding Question: Are we doing good works that help people and glorify God?

(Click here for a study sheet on Going.)

BAPTIZING – Uniting with Jesus in a new life

  • The Great Commission instructs disciples to baptize all kinds of people.

  • The New Testament’s immediate and automatic response to the gospel was baptism. Anyone who encountered Jesus could be baptized and baptize others. (We have no dogmatic position on the timing and method of baptism.)

  • Baptism signifies uniting with Jesus to end an old life and begin a new life.

  • Guiding Question: Are we offering people the opportunity to start a new life in Christ?

(Click here for a study sheet on Baptizing.)

TEACHING – Obeying Jesus’ command to love

  • The Great Commission calls us to teach new disciples everything that Jesus has commanded us. Discipleship is holding to those teachings.

  • God’s greatest command for us to obey is to love.

  • Obedience is expressed through the fruit of the Spirit and leads to freedom.

  • Guiding Question: Are people being set free to simply be "vessels" that contain Jesus?
