About Department

Mechanical Engineering Department at Government Polytechnic, Porbandar was established in 1960, offering Diploma Mechanical Engineering with intake of 90 seat under Commissionerate of Technical Education, Gujarat. Department is well reputed & pioneer across the Saurashtra region. It is achievement that Mechanical Engineering Department had got accreditation for academic year 2024-25 to 2026-27 by NBA (National Board of Accreditation) New Delhi. Department is also well established & curriculum supported laboratories. To support effective teaching learning, highly qualified faculties (1 PhD & 11 M.E. out of total 19 faculties) are available. Also, a good number of research papers had been published by faculties in reputed peer reviewed International Journals.

• We produce diploma engineers specialized in Thermal, Manufacturing and Design.

The department has been provided with following laboratories and workshops fully equipped with equipment and machinery as prescribed in the syllabus. Various laboratories available in Mechanical Engineering Department:

1.      Engg. Workshop Practice & production technology Lab:

Lathe Machine, Drilling Machine, Shaper machine, Milling machine, Hacks haw machine, Grinding Machine, Vice for Carpentry & Fitting   Shop.

2.      Thermal Engg. Lab:

Multi Cylinder Petrol Morse Test Smoke Meter Two way Gas Analyzer Single Cylinder 4 Stroke Diesel Engine, Cut sectional models 2 Stroke & 4 Stroke IC Engines, 2 Stage Reciprocating Air Compressor, Single Cylinder Horizontal IC Engine, Air Compressor Test Rig, Vapour Compression Refrigeration Test Rig. 

3.      Metallurgy & Industrial Engineering Lab:

Rockwell Hardness tester, Izod Impact tester, microscope, Magnetic Crack Detector, Polishing Machine, Decimal stopwatch (Non fly back type), Decimal stopwatch (Fly back type), MS Pins, Buttons, Sampling rack.

4.      Metrology & Instrumentation Lab:

Auto Collimator, Angle Dekker Gear Test, Bench Tool Maker Microscope, Dial calibration tester, Micrometer, Vernier Callipers, Slip Gauge, Sine Bar.

5.      FM & HM Lab:

Hydraulic bench set up, Bernoulli's Apparatus, Orifice meter, Venturimeter, V Notch, Reciprocating pump, Heavy Duty Centrifugal pump.  

6.      CAD/CAM Lab:

Computers with configuration such as Intel i5/AMD CPU, 8 & 16 GB RAM, 64-bit Windows 11 Operating System, In-built Wi-fi, Bluetooth, Speakers Standard Keyboard and Mouse; Wi-Fi facility, Multimedia Projector, Basic freely available version of 2D/3D modelling and simulation software.
