At our Golden Sun Childcare Sedgwick Center, we believe childhood should be filled with love, friendships, exploration, messy projects, big feelings, lots of laughter, and plenty of opportunities to learn through play.
Our Sedgwick Center serves children from infancy through preschool, allowing many of our children to grow with us through some of the most important developmental years of their lives.
Sam is our Lead for the Sedgwick Center, overseeing the building and leading our Early Preschool classroom. Logan is our Infant & Toddler Lead, creating a loving and enriching environment for our littlest learners.
Together, our Sedgwick team works to create a center where children feel safe, loved, included, confident, and excited to come through the doors each day.
At Golden Sun, one of our biggest beliefs is that social and emotional development comes first.
Before children can be expected to sit down and learn letters, numbers, shapes, or how to write their names, they need to feel safe and connected. They need opportunities to learn how to communicate their needs, understand their feelings, build friendships, work through frustration, develop confidence, and learn how to be part of a community.
These skills look different at every age — from an infant learning that a trusted caregiver will comfort them when they cry, to a toddler learning to use words instead of grabbing, to a preschooler learning how to work through a disagreement with a friend.
We grow hearts first — and the learning follows.
Our infant classroom, led by Logan, is a warm and nurturing space where our littlest Golden Sun kiddos can safely begin exploring their world.
Even babies are learning ALL day long!
Our infant activities focus on sensory exploration, tummy time, fine and gross motor development, music, books, early communication, Baby ASL, movement, and age-appropriate hands-on experiences.
We also understand how important routines and relationships are during infancy. Our teachers work closely with families to understand each baby's feeding and sleeping routines, personality, milestones, favorite ways to be comforted, and individual needs.
From first smiles and new sounds to sitting, crawling, signing, standing, and those exciting first steps, we love getting to celebrate the little moments that turn into BIG milestones!
Toddlers are BUSY — and we love it!
Our toddler program gives children opportunities to move, touch, build, create, explore, make a mess, ask questions, and discover what they can do.
Through play and hands-on experiences, Logan and our toddler team introduce colors, shapes, numbers, books, songs, language, sensory activities, art, fine motor skills, gross motor development, outdoor play, and early classroom routines.
This is also an incredibly important age for social and emotional development. Toddlers are learning to navigate some very BIG feelings! We help children begin learning how to express those emotions, communicate their wants and needs, take turns, play alongside friends, develop independence, and work through frustration.
We don't expect toddlers to sit at a table all day to learn.
Toddlers learn by DOING!
As children become ready for the next step, they transition into our Early Preschool classroom with Sam.
This classroom helps bridge the exciting space between toddlerhood and preschool. Children begin developing more independence while continuing to learn through the thing they do best — PLAY!
Sam creates hands-on opportunities for children to explore shapes, colors, letters, numbers, early literacy, art, music, sensory activities, fine and gross motor skills, creative play, and so much more.
Children also continue building the social and emotional skills that are so important at this age: making friends, expressing feelings, solving problems, following classroom routines, communicating, sharing, taking turns, and becoming more confident doing things independently.
The goal isn't to rush children into the next stage. It's to give them the confidence and foundation they need so that when they are ready, they are excited for what comes next!
Our preschool years are such an exciting time at Golden Sun.
Through learning through play, children continue working on letters, numbers, shapes, colors, name recognition and writing, early literacy and math, fine and gross motor development, science, sensory exploration, art, music, stories, imaginative play, and kindergarten-readiness skills.
But being ready for big kid school means so much more than knowing ABCs and 123s.
We want our preschoolers to leave Golden Sun knowing how to make friends, ask for help, communicate their feelings, solve problems, be kind, follow routines, try new things, work independently, and believe in themselves.
And, of course, we still make plenty of time to run, play, laugh, get messy, create, explore, and simply enjoy being a kid!
One of the most amazing parts of what we do is getting to watch children grow up with us.
Some children start Golden Sun as tiny babies. We get to watch them learn to sit, crawl, walk and talk. Then suddenly they're toddlers running through the playground, preschoolers writing their names, and before we know it, we're watching them graduate and head off to BIG kid school!
Our Golden Sun graduation is incredibly special to us because it represents so much more than finishing preschool. It celebrates years of growing, learning, friendships, milestones, memories, and love.
Watching a child who once needed us to hold their hand walk out our doors confident and ready for their next adventure is one of the greatest parts of what we get to do.
