Milo is a chess prodigy who has lost his love for the game. He no longer gets that special feeling when engrossed in a tournament. He even throws a match so that he doesn’t have to continue playing and lies about doing so. When Milo’s mother decides they should leave New York City and spend the summer in New Jersey with a friend she met in an online group for single moms, Milo is furious. But he has now lost his chess camp scholarship and he and the other mom’s daughter, Roxie, need something to do for the summer. The kids are sent to a camp for much younger kids and Milo discovers a passion for the game of Go. Milo also discovers that the incredibly annoying Roxie is just the friend that he needs at the moment.
Jessie Janowitz
After studying comparative literature at Princeton, Ms. Janowitz taught in a French public high school for cooking and restaurant service, then sold translation rights for a publishing house, which led her to law school. She eventually found her way back to reading and writing stories.
She grew up in New York City and still lives there with her husband and three children.
She hates: mayonnaise, bats (the flying kind), and bad moods.
She loves: being told a great story by a great storyteller, laughing so hard she cries, and doughnuts.
All the Ways to Go is her third book for young people.
