Grades 4 and up
Butternut, a young rabbit with a gift for storytelling, has been taught caution and isolation by her mother and grandmother. When she ventures outside the burrow, however, she meets Piper, a chatty young robin, and the two collaborate to help an injured fawn. Soon Butternut finds that she’s far braver than she thought she was as she and her fellow meadow-dwellers attempt a remarkable and potentially dangerous rescue. It’s a tale of compassion and community, filled with wonderful animal characters.
