Approximately 200 years ago, the Kingdom of Galifar (Khorvaire)--after sending its navy to deal with the pirate problem in the south–struck a deal with the five most powerful pirate leaders; Stormreach would be theirs to rule, as long as they helped deal with piracy in the Thunder Sea. Their descendents still rule Stormreach today, each overseeing different districts.
Yorrick Amanatu (dwarf, male). The Amanatus were known as some of the most ruthless pirates in the Lhazaar Principalities; Yorrick is the only original Storm Lord alive (around 260 years old)--a credit to his strength and cunning. Has considerable influence over the Stormreach Guard.
Districts: Respite and Silverwall
Kirris Sel Shadra (gnome, female). The Sel Shadras of Zilargo were known smugglers, but there are rumors that some mysteries of the Thunder Sea (such as ghost ships) are due to their illusions. Kirris, the “Spider of Stormreach”, is as cunning as her ancestors, overseeing both the magistrates (justice) and the criminal underground of Stormreach–an open secret.
Districts: Oldgate and Southwatch
Varen Lassite (human, male). The Lassites are a line of pirates who are both some of the greatest smugglers in the Thunder Sea, and master brewers. Varen, like all those before him, is a capable negotiator and usually represents Stormreach to foreign nations; he tends to remain neutral in conflicts and speaks up for the people of Stormreach–together, with the backing of the family distillery, this makes him loved by the common folk and upper classes alike.
Districts: Cross and Marketplace
Paolo Omaren (human, female). Delera, the founder of the Omarens, was a capable and respected pirate queen, but an unfortunate investor: she tied her family to the maintenance of Stormreach’s infrastructure and outfitting of the guard, but realized too late she underestimated the costs involved. Paolo is proud and as capable as her ancestor, and determined to turn things around for the Omarens.
Districts: Forgelight and Temple
Jonas Wylkes (half-elf, male). The founder of the Wylkes line, Jolan, was more a privateer than pirate, and included in the treaty by Galifar’s request; while the other Storm Lords are referred to as the Coin Lords, the Wylkes line remains the outsider as the Harbor Lord (not a bad deal, considering they can levy taxes and fees on the ships going in and out of Stormreach). All was well for the family, until Graden died (by murder, rumor has it), and his son Jonas–an incompetent socialite–took over.
Districts: Harbor
Handlon the Brick (human, male). The no-nonsense, good-natured owner of The Black Wrack, a bar constructed from an old ship hull. His enormous mastiff, Sascha, can usually be found sleeping in a corner, but will help scare off anyone causing problems. The back wall is covered in notices–an adventuring board of sorts–and is part of what makes the bar popular among adventurers and locals alike.
