This is the final map product for Lab #2 for GEOG 400. The assignment here was to take NASA GISS temperature rasters from NETcdf file-types all they way to a functional map product. Once the data was dealt with, we were assigned groups based on our last names to create a final map layout that either supported or denied the conclusion that the earth is warming up. As you can see below, I was sorted into the climate change denier group. Don't forget about the asterisks!
While making this map, I ran into one major problem. once the color ramp symbology was set, I noticed that the rasters from the 1960 to 1989 dataset were on different scale than those in the 1990 to 2019 dataset. This was an issue because the magnitude of warming in recent years had increased , and the maps were only comparing the area of warming that increased, due to both datasets showing different temperatures as their "highest value" and therefore displaying two different values as the same deep red. To fix this I used the "import symbology from a layer" tool that was pointed out to me by my professor, Dr. Kasprak. This fixed my issue and put all the rasters I was working with into agreement with their scales. This allowed me to combine the legend symbology into one handy bar, and greatly improved the look of the final product. Fun problem solving!
