Saint Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, patron of the universal Church, is the perfect Christian example of a chaste and faithful father of a family. In the devotion to St. Joseph, we recite a long list of St. Joseph's praises, yet we find no words spoken by St. Joseph recorded in the Gospels. St. Joseph was a man of silence, a selfless servant of God's word, who discerned and obeyed the will of God, in spite of many challenges he had to face in his life. He trusted in Divine Providence and saw God's plan working in his life.
St. Josephmodels fidelity to God's love in family life. He was chaste and faithful to Mary, protecting her from "public disgrace" and supporting her throughout. He is an ideal for all men in the home and in public life. Husbands and Fathers are called to protect and love their wives and children.
In our families, we take the example of St. Joseph, who dreamed and discerned in silence. He also consulted angels, friends, and made good decisions.Hardships did not deter him from loving and protecting Jesus and Mary. He is a model of a just man who worked hard and had a large generous heart open to God.
