The genesis of the idea was a callback to our childhood years where we’d pray the Rosary daily before school. Dad would lead from a little blue “Pray the Rosary” prayer book, and we’d all have to show up, even if we were grumbling. My parents' devotion to the Rosary is extraordinary and it has brought countless blessings to our lives. We knew mom would love it.
It’s been over four years now, and we’re still dialing in. Start time is 7:30 pm MT, with a reminder sent 10 minutes before, so whoever is able can join. Different families lead nightly, including cousins, with mom and I taking the helm on Sundays. We start with petitions and before ending the call we say the prayer for the Beatification of Venerable Patrick Peyton.
It’s been a gift to my mom, and she especially lights up when the grandkids lead.
As it turns out, the preface written in the little blue Rosary book was written by Father Patrick Peyton. In all the decades it has been in our family, I didn't notice it until after my dad died. A little God-wink. I picture my dad praying along from the great beyond with a big smile. I certainly won the parent lottery.
Thank you, Father Peyton, for keeping us together. May you one day be declared a Saint publicly, although you will always be one in my heart.
