The convention’s theme, "Linked in Christ: One Body in Christ" (Romans 12:5), resonated deeply with participants, inspiring them to forge stronger bonds with each other and with Jesus Christ. This gathering, the first in a decade, was the culmination of a year-long preparation by the dedicated Jesus Youth Canada leadership team, and it significantly strengthened the youth's commitment to building communities rooted in faith and spreading the message of Jesus Christ.
The convention’s emphasis on renewing faith, particularly at the individual and family level, is especially commendable in our present age. As the Chaplain for Jesus Youth Ontario, I was blessed to share in this remarkable journey, offering my humble services with a passionate drive to encourage these young men and women to integrate prayer, especially the Rosary, into their daily lives.
Holy Cross Family Ministry Canada (HCFM) played a vital role in this event by setting up a vibrant stall that became a focal point for attendees. We distributed literature on Venerable Patrick Peyton, along with Rosaries and "How to Pray the Rosary" leaflets, all aimed at fostering "Happy, Healthy, and Holy Families" and nurturing faith-filled communities. The enthusiastic reception of these resources by the young attendees was a testament to their desire to deepen their understanding and practice of prayer.
Beyond the stall, my involvement extended to participating in a panel discussion, where I had the privilege of sharing insights on living out the convention’s theme in our daily lives. I emphasized the critical role of the family as the fundamental unit of the Church, highlighting the responsibility of parents to witness Christ in their homes and to teach their children the relevance of Christ in every aspect of life. My priestly services during the convention, including administering the sacraments and providing spiritual counseling, were moments of grace that reinforced the sense of solidarity and communion among the participants.
The atmosphere at the convention was one of profound joy and spiritual renewal. Canada’s Jesus Youth movement is setting a beautiful trend, revitalizing faith and communion within the Catholic Church across the country. This gathering was more than just an event; it was a transformative experience that left a lasting impact on everyone present, reminding us of the strength that comes from being "linked in Christ." The convention stands as a powerful testament to the enduring vibrancy of faith among Canada’s Catholic youth and offers a beacon of hope and inspiration for young people and families across the world.
In a time when the pressures of modern life often pull us away from our spiritual roots, this convention highlighted the importance of prayer—as individuals, families, and communities. To know Christ, to love Christ, and to witness Christ in every situation is not just a calling but a necessity in today’s world. Through prayer, we open our hearts to the grace of God, strengthening our bond with Him and with each other. This experience at the Jesus Youth National Convention has set the stage for a renewed commitment to living out our faith with passion and conviction, not just in Canada but globally. The convention reflected seriously and passionately on how to reach out to the scattered and strengthen the gathered.
The convention was further enriched by the presence of esteemed Church leaders, including Bishop Gerald Paul Burgie, DD, of the Diocese of Saint Catharines, Ontario; Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, DD, of the Diocese of Hamilton; and Bishop Jose Kalluvelil, DD, of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Mississauga. Their participation, along with that of numerous priests, sisters, and representatives from other countries, added a profound sense of unity and ecclesial support to the event. Their words of encouragement and spiritual guidance were instrumental in inspiring the youth to deepen their commitment to Christ and the Church. The presence of these shepherds among the flock was a powerful reminder of the universal nature of the Church, fostering a spirit of communion that transcends geographical boundaries and unites us all as one body in Christ. Their involvement underscored the significance of the convention and highlighted the Church's unwavering commitment to nurturing the faith of the younger generation.
Let us continue to build on this momentum, encouraging one another to be steadfast in prayer, strong in faith, and united in Christ.
