Haiti
For the most part, Haitian people nourish filial piety towards the Blessed Virgin Mary because she is the Mother of the Saviour and for her constant intercessions in any disease or misfortune whatsoever on her behalf. Moreover, the country is consecrated to the Virgin Mary under Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
This consecration is recognition of the Virgin following her powerful intercession to deliver Haitian people from the smallpox epidemic that decimated them around the 1880s. Thus devotion to the Virgin Mary for her maternal solicitude is widespread. Many religious and state institutions (dispensaries, hospitals, schools, etc.) are dedicated to protecting the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The faithful flock to the patronal feasts of the parishes, especially under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Not to mention the annual Marian charismatic congresses that bring together tens of thousands of followers of all religions; even non-believers associate themselves with it.
The prayer of the Rosary is recited throughout the day by devout Catholics. In short, the Blessed Virgin Mary is very present in the life of the people.
