Connecting HCFM to the Global Holy Cross Family
Father Willy Raymond, C.S.C.
President, Holy Cross Family Ministries
Dear Friends in Christ,
The Sabbath exists for man {and woman}
Friends, Josef Pieper's classic work Leisure: the Basis of Culture claims religion can be born and exist only in leisure - leisure that allows time for the contemplation of God. He maintains that our contemporary world of total labor has overwhelmed leisure and threatens to destroy the family, religion, and society itself. So, he warns: "Unless we regain the art of silence and insight--the ability for nonactivity-- unless we substitute true leisure for our hectic amusements, we will deny the possibility of religion, destroy our culture and ourselves."
Families celebrating sabbath leisure know the power of Easter joy to strengthen all the ties that bind them to each other and God in faith, hope, and love. Without articulating it, they know that "only one activity is capable of broadening the mind, soul, and heart to their uttermost reaches—the worship of God."
Saint John Paul II, in his Apostolic Letter on the celebration of the Lord's Day, Dies Domini, describes this moment of Sunday rest as "God's 'gaze of joyful delight' which God casts upon creation, and especially upon man {and woman}. God's sabbath gaze points to the nuptial relationship He wishes to establish with us, the creatures made in His image. Here, there is a mutual exchange of love between Creator and creature, which is only possible because both have ceased from work to gaze on each other in love."
Easter Blessings to you and your loved ones. I hope you always live for the Sabbath.
Father Willy Raymond, C.S.C.
Father Willy Raymond, C.S.C., has led Holy Cross Family Ministries, as president, for almost eight years. He also served for fourteen years as National Director of Family Theater Productions, a member ministry of HCFM. He recently announced that he is stepping aside from the role of president effective June 30, 2022.
“After much discernment and discussions with our Religious Superiors, I believe it is the hour for me to step aside for a younger, more energetic Holy Cross priest who will lead HCFM forward to the next level,” said Father Raymond. “This is not an easy decision and certainly not one I take lightly.”
The Provincial Council of the Congregation of Holy Cross is conducting the process to identify a successor over the next few months.
During Father Raymond’s tenure, the ministry opened six new global ministry centers, three in India, two in Tanzania, one in Canada, and reopened the center in Haiti. HCFM promotes happy, healthy, and holy families through 27 ministries centers in 17 countries on five continents. Also, during his tenure, Father Raymond led the development of The Museum of Family Prayer and launched The Peyton Institute for Domestic Church Life.
One important achievement was developing a collaborative leadership style and helping to build collegial teams on all levels of the ministry.
Digital reach of the ministry has grown exponentially over the past few years, particularly due to strategic adjustments made to serve families more effectively before and during the Covid-19 pandemic.
As the process moves forward, information will be shared. In the meantime, please keep Father Willy and the Provincial Council in prayer.
Father Pinto Paul, C.S.C., Ph.D.
International Director

Dear Jesus,
Father Peyton devoted his priestly life to strengthening the families of the world by calling them to pray together every day, especially the Rosary. His message is as important for us now as it was during his life on earth.
We beg you, therefore, to hasten the day of his beatification, so that your faithful people everywhere will remember his message that the family that prays together stays together, will imitate him in his devotion to your Mother and ours, and will be inspired by his holy life to draw ever closer to you with childlike confidence and love.
Amen.
