What is a Jam? A jam is collaborative experience where groups race the clock to create new and inspiring projects geared toward a shared theme or purpose. It is not a competition but a chance to work with new people and to experiment and take creative risk in a supportive and exciting environment. A jam can consist of one location or many. What unifies a jam is the shared goals and time frame which condenses the process. ANY SKILL and ANY SKILL LEVEL is welcome. Even if you feel like "just the idea person."
Global Game Jam is the world’s largest game jam event, with over 30,000 jammers across 632 sites in 93 countries. Stevenson University is one of those sites!
Game Jam 2025: Normally we work with Global Game Jam, but this year, we had to choose a different date for our jam because the GGJ event fell outside of the semester. No worries! We're still using their theme: Bubbles.
What to Expect for 2025:
Friday: Learn some solid basics for making a fun, functional game whether it’s a board game, card game, story game, table top game, party game, or video game! Our mentors are ready to help you learn the skills you desire. Afterwards, we’ll brainstorm on our theme (BUBBLES!) while we eat free food. You may participate alone, in a preformed team, or decide who to work with that night!
Saturday: Work from home. Work from the lab. Work from work. Work from SOB. Work from your car. Whatever works for you! -- Just remember, our faculty mentors will have free snacks and supplies throughout the day in SB 102 and SB 103
Sunday: Throughout the day faculty mentors will be here to help you finish, test, or polish your game. At 4:00pm, everyone will come together and share the games they made in the ultimate game-night party. Bring your friends!
What's different from past jams for 2025?
No presentation. We'll go around the room and you can tell us what your game's objectives are and how many people can play, but Sunday will be mainly about enjoying your games and hard work.
No GGJ Uploading. Since we're not officially a Global Game Jam site, we won't be uploading to their international site. All our games will be shared locally.
Earlier Start & End: 4:00pm!
Learning on Friday: We'll be offering tips, tricks, and even instruction on how to make a good game, brainstorm, and work as a team.
Hope to see you there!
