Section 1: Introduction
As a Tick III+ you should have developed ‘Gamemaster common sense’ and know what you can/can’t do. Another difference between regular GMs and Tick III+ is the ability to host Offmaps. Offmaps can be a great chance to show off your story telling, as someone rising through the GM ranks something that sets you apart would be how well you can convey a story/problem and let the community solve it. Of course you must keep in mind to not dictate/control the RP and to let it play out. Basically you must be able to adapt and roll with the multiple ways a solution can be found.
Section 2: Responsibilities
As stated previously, you’re given more responsibility as a Tick III+ one of those being you’re given more weapon variety. These are limited for GMs since they can be overpowered and very situational. Another responsibility is assisting when you see a problem with someone else's event, as you won’t be running every single event. It’s your job to look at staff chat and see if someone needs help. Oftentimes most things can be solved with a simple sentence although there will be times where you need to hop on the Admin job and go to them. Another very important thing to keep in mind is to stay calm and friendly, you don’t want to come off as aggressive especially if you are just trying to help. It’s not your job to be in everyone’s business. If you’re not going to respectfully suggest something. Don’t try to force it. Let the other GM do their event (unless it’s clearly breaking the guidelines).
Section 3: Offmaps
Offmaps are of course the biggest thing separating GM Tick III from regular GMs. They’re used to switch things up from the usual routine:
!menu
Go to the maps tab
Pick your desired map
Force change it
Confirm
When the offmap is completed make sure to go back to the correct ISD: rp_star_destroyer_glv3
You want to keep enough action while making sure each battalion has something to do. (Ex. Setting up something for IC or Engineers to hack into, giving Shock a prisoner to detain) These things are easy to do and can make the difference between an okay or amazing offmap. Another key thing to keep in mind is to remove useless world props. If there are a lot of players. It might be a good idea to remove props as you see fit. Remember that for most maps you will need an Admin+ on for setting spawns and a jailpoint. It is recommended to have people spread out and multiple areas of conflict (enemies) to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Section 4: Assisting GMs
One of the best things a GM can do is spread their knowledge with others. We are a team and need to work as such. If you think you know more than someone and see them struggling feel free to ask politely and see if they would like help. Of course with time comes more wisdom and especially with Gmod comes more little tips and tricks. This is something that is guaranteed to get you more noticed as assisting other GMs shows that you’re confident in your abilities as a GM. The biggest issue that can cause is butting of heads between two GMs. Make sure that you are respectful of other people’s events and try not to take it over. It’s best to suggest things rather than completely force it your way.
