Supervises the operation of the district’s library/media centers; collaborates with staff in providing a variety and range of materials to support content area curriculum, instructional practices, and the Model Library Standards; challenges students in their research and study, and stimulate an intellectual curiosity and a lifelong love of learning and reading. This position also provides leadership and direction to classified library media specialists.
Responsible for principal and teacher professional development, innovation, and integration of new literacies including the Art and Science of Reading, STEM, CTE, coding, robotics, outreach to educational partners, and student personalized learning including school library programs. The founder and principal of the district’s award-winning Cloud Campus online school, which received the state’s only elementary online Civic Excellence award. Supports MTSS, SEL, and DLI innovation technologies and practices. Member of the district’s equity leadership committee. Responsible for the elevation of all the school library programs promoting multiple literacies, equity, and the love of reading and learning.
Established the first electives for middle and elementary school students that implemented the California Model School Library Standards into a stand-alone classroom context as a means of student empowerment and educational technology integration. Each year these classes have been recognized by the Orange County Department of Education through the CTAP Student Technology Showcase program. He was awarded the Orange County Teachers of the Year and the California Teachers of the Year semi-finalist.
Redefined and resurfaced the role of the teacher librarian as a lead educator and professional development provider in the areas of digital and information literacy education for students and teachers. Provided county, state, and national leadership for cyber safety and digital literacy education. Co-wrote the state’s Model School Library Standards, and the California Technical Education standards for Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Supported kindergarten through eighth-grade teachers with information and technology integration into all core content areas. Instructed students in information and digital literacy including cyber safety and online source evaluation methods.
Established a daily all school broadcast and provided educational technology professional development for colleagues and administration. Incorporated original music into multiple subject teaching and learning goals.
